Singapore: Residence & Citizenship Updates

05/11/2019
In the 2019 Budget the Government announced a rebate to all taxpayers for the tax year 2019 of 50% of their personal income tax payable, subject to a cap on the total rebate. The rebate is part of a wider Bicentennial Bonus to celebrate the city state’s bicentennial. Under the programme S$1.1billion in Bonus benefits will be distributed to 1.4 million qualifying Singaporeans.

5G Network

The Ministry of Communications will shortly issue licensed for G networks which are to be progressively introduced in the course of 2020. The system will be a standalone 5G system using the most advanced technology and will not be based or ‘piggyback’ on existing 4G systems.  It is expected that Singapore will be the first SE Asian state to offer this service.

Employment

In the third quarter of 2019 total employment in Singapore increased to its highest level in ten years with the addition of a further 22,400 individuals joining the workforce, according to figures produced by the Ministry of Manpower. The main gains were in the manufacturing and construction sectors with the tech sector also continuing to perform very well.
